Oktoberfest in Oregon

After visiting my sister in Kansas for a week, I came home to a spotless apartment and these gorgeous roses.  Oregon is called the 'Rose State' for good reason.  They lasted for over three weeks.

Dan hanging out in our kitchen/dining room.

Dan doesn't love picture taking; however, he's been a sport and indulged me on multiple occasions. . . this being one of them.  These were the product of our Halloween FHE.  I think we even had one trick-or-treater.

This annual event is a sausage and sauerkraut dinner which began over 150 years ago in the little Dutch community of Verboort, Oregon.  Most of the dinner (applesauce, green beans, rolls, sausage and sauerkraut) is local, homemade and takes months to prepare.  The event began with a 198 lbs. of homemade sausage.  Today, they serve over 17 tons of sausage to 10,000 diners in one day.

A picture with one of the relatives of Father William Verboort, the man who started the annual event.

The Giant Redwood Sequoias seen here, were brought as seeds from California after Father Verboort and his family spent time in California during the 1849 Gold Rush.

Standing outside the Catholic school gymnasium, for the much anticipated dinner.
