Seattle snowstorm

The week of Thanksgiving 2010, Dan had meetings in Seattle, Monday - Wednesday.  We decided that we would make it a week and spend a few more days there.  However, Mother Nature had different plans.  Monday morning we left just after 7 a.m. so we could get to Seattle in time for Dan's 11 a.m. meeting start time.

For all Utahans reading this, all snow is NOT created equal.  We discovered, the hard way, not to be in any type of Northwest snowstorm.  There is no such thing as snow plows here.  They also do not use salt to help de-ice the roads because it is not good for the environment.

Needless to say, the typical 3 hour drive ended up taking twice that, plus some and when all was said and done, we were grateful to make it to Seattle in one piece, and alive.  Our week-long trip turned into a 'less-than-24-hour' jaunt.  Due to weather, Dan received an early morning phone call on Tuesday indicating the rest of the week's meetings had been canceled and all employees were to go home.  Although Seattle is a fun city, I can't say we were exactly sad to leave.

Here are some pictures of abandoned vehicles we passed on the interstate on our way back to Portland (which only got a skiff of snow).

This last picture was a shot of how beautiful Oregon can be
(when not driving in it) after a snowstorm.
